For the love of everything natural, with a gorgeous hair like this, who needs a relaxer?

By Kemi Mobuse - Sunday, April 10, 2016

Natural hair is now the reigning trend in town to the dismay of an ardent relaxer user like me. I remember on one special occasion, i met a lady with her natural hair, all coiled, coifed, oiled et all, for lack of a better word, looking sooo full, and beautiful, i fell in love abi what's the word? almost immediately with her hair, forget the lady herself, the hair was all i had eyes for. i tell you, on the spot, i almost became a believer and wanted to cut off my permed hair at that very instant., the voice of my son screaming, Mummy! however jolted me back to reality. with one last, longing look, at the beautiful hair, i teared myself away, hoping that, one day.... that will be me, rocking a hair that, will make even the most stubborn relaxer user a natural hair believer!.

Am sure , that was how the CEO of Midas naturals, an all natural products producing brand, felt, when she took the huge step and sawed off all her permed hair. She then started making natural products to rejuvenate her natural hair by herself ...... she told us more about her journey in her interview, read below:

Kemi Mobuse blog: Can we meet you? What do you do?

Midas naturals: Hello, my name is Somi Igbene, I make natural products for hair and skin care.

Kemi Mobuse blog: What is the name of your brand and how old is it?

Midas naturals: Our brand is called Midas Naturals, we were officially established in 2013 but we didn't start making products until 2014. We had to take a break in mid 2014 until late 2015 to completely reorganize the brand. We re-launched again in November 2015

Kemi Mobuse blog: What inspired you going into hair and skin products production?

Midas naturals: I decided to cut off my relaxed hair back in 2012 and I wanted products that were readily available for me to use. With my science background I decided to start experimenting with formulations and developed products that were effective for my hair.  After family members tried them and attested to their efficacy I decided to make a career out of product making.

Kemi Mobuse blog: How was starting out for you capital wise?

Midas naturals: I didn't start with any capital per se, it's been a case of reinvesting the total revenue of any sales back into the business and letting it grow itself.

Kemi Mobuse blog: You said, with your science background, did you major in science?

Midas naturals: Yes I did, my highest qualification to date is a PhD in cell & molecular biology.

Kemi Mobuse blog: Wow! I assume part of d reason of obtaining a PhD is to teach, why didn't you follow through?

Midas naturals: I was never interested in teaching. I was given the opportunity to do one after my masters’ degree and I did one.
