By Kemi Mobuse - Tuesday, July 19, 2016
I have learnt that having a genuine passion for what you do and not being afraid to follow what you love is usually very fulfilling.
Despite, having a demanding 9 -5 Job, it didn't stop, Mrs Tiwalola Ogungbe, the CEO and Creative director of Tiwi's Place Of Décor from pursuing all her passion, wherever they pull her. And she is really great at all she does.
In her brief interview with KMB, she talked about her brand journey, the challenges experienced and her future plan among others. read excerpts below;
Kemi Mobuse: Can we meet you? What do you
do?
Tiwi's Place Of
Décor: My name is Tiwalola Ogungbe. Creative director at Tiwi's Place Of Décor
(Homes & Events). Married to Taiwo Ogungbe. Blessed with two adorable boys.
I studied B.A. Mass Communication at Olabisi Onabanjo University and MSc
International Marketing Management at the University of East London.
Kemi Mobuse: What is Tiwi's place of decor
about?

homes and events. We are committed to excellent products and service delivery.
Customer satisfaction is our core value. We pay attention to every little

Kemi Mobuse: What term do you use to describe
what you do, interior designer or decorator?
Tiwi's Place Of
Décor: Home stylist
Kemi Mobuse: What determined your passion for
design? Can you pinpoint the moment when you decided, that; this is the way to
go?
Tiwi's Place Of
Décor: I have always loved to arrange and put things together in the house.
I started off with home decor items, but I knew I could do more. The passion for designing, decorating and making spaces look beautiful have always been in me. It's just natural. I am 100% drawn to all things beautifully put together. Then I expanded into events décor.

Kemi Mobuse: Wow, nice one! can you remember
your first design project? Describe it a bit, whether it was something you made
as a kid for yourself or sold on a large scale?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: My first design project was gifts wrapping. Lol. When I started, while
trying to build my customer base, a client asked me if I could wrap some gifts
(eru Iyawo). I gladly said yes! Even though, I had not done it before. So I
ventured into it and it was beautifully done.
Kemi Mobuse: Given a chance to carve a niche
for yourself in a design field, which would it be and why?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: Hmmm. Good niches don't just come by strolling in.. They really have to
be carefully carved. The industry is outrageously competitive. Even the top
gamers can relate. For me, I would keep my existing clients. Make them do a
repeat purchase and or repeat service as the case maybe. With this I'll
automatically get new clients; a satisfied existing customer will give
referrals.
Kemi Mobuse: How old is your brand now, what
major challenges have you had to deal with since inception, how did you sort it
out, more importantly what can you say those challenges taught you?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: Tiwi's place of décor started officially August 2012. So we are about
4years now
At first,
building client base was a major challenge. But as time went by, we learnt how
to retain our existing clients and also source for potential clients;
networking. At the moment, the market is really competitive. We cannot pretend
as if the competitors are not there. They are very much around and we need to
always be on our toes to emphasize our Unique selling proposition to people, so
we can have as many clients as possible on our side.
This taught me to
make customer satisfaction a priority. So I don't joke with how I relate with
my clients. I make them part of the family. I leverage on the relationships we
have.
Kemi Mobuse: What inspires you?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: Passion inspires me. It keeps me going even when challenges come and
things get really overwhelming. I have a huge passion for making people's homes
beautiful, creating a jaw breaking ambience for events. I believe every home
should have its own personality.
Also there are some people in the industry that motivate and inspire me. I stalk them most of the time. Lol

Kemi Mobuse: Lol! @Stalk. What can you say is
the most frustrating aspect of your job as a designer/stylist and the most
rewarding?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: My best reward is when clients are extremely happy with our delivery.
This means more than $1m. As a result of this, we go the extra mile in paying
attention to every little detail. Decor/designing/styling is all about details.
If melts my heart when guests walk into a well styled venue and are really
wowed.
Kemi Mobuse: Share something you will like
the world to know about you?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: I love having fun. I’m such a jolly good fellow. Never a dull moment
with me. And lastly, I have a 9-5 job with a reputable media house. A lot of
people don't know that.
Kemi Mobuse:Words you live?
Tiwi's Place Of
Decor: God, consistency, passion, excellent Product/service delivery, attention
to details, tenacity
Kemi Mobuse: Nice one 😀😀😀😀.
Any advice for upcoming entrepreneurs?
Tiwa's Place Of
Decor: My advice to young people who might want to venture in entrepreneurship:
consistency. Never stop being relevant. Be consistent in whatever you do. Also,
excellence, finesse. Excellence is key. Have passion for what you do. It's not
always about the money. Let the passion come first. And most importantly,
always involve God.
Kemi Mobuse: Lastly, how can you be
