I've always hated walking into made in Nigeria businesses and being handed a list of 101 services they offer. Listen, if your business is offering more than five services and you’re calling yourselves experts on all of them, you’re lying through your teeth. Funmi Coconuts kept her business model simple. She sold coconuts, and that was it. She didn’t try to get into the Food/events business. She didn’t attempt to sell seafood. She sold coconuts because that’s what she does best.

Funmi is more passionate about coconuts than most parents are about their kids. She knows every single fact, statistic and use a coconut could provide. She ate coconuts and studied coconuts. She used them as a conditioner and body lotion, to rehydrate her skin and made several unique by products from them. When KMB interviewed her, I didn’t feel Funmi was selling coconuts to me. I felt as though she was allowing me the privilege to share in her passion.

I love cake so much it’s become a running joke between my husband and I. He’ll tease me by offering me cake if I do him a favour, trust me to run around and do it of course! . That’s because Cake is definitely my favourite dessert (with the exception of ice-cream of course) but there’s just something about cake — the rich, dense and intensely frosting-y kind — that other popular desserts just can’t stand up to.

Cake, when done right, has layers and to me More layers = more fun. And then, there’s the experience of eating the cake itself. If ever the sugary frosting is too much (usually never the case for me), you can count on the interior to balance things out. I love this juxtaposition more than anything. Just picture yourself digging your spoon into a slice of that. It’s good, isn’t it? Hehe! My blood sugar is rising just thinking of it.

So coming across the yummy cakes made by Made in Nigeria brand tastycraft is a wonderful reminder of my amazing love for cake and how special they make me feel…..

Nigerian Fried Rice! Hmmm!

The second most popular rice dish in Nigeria; A must have at parties and a major meal in most homes. It’s tagged “Nigerian Fried Rice” obviously cos there are various recipes out there but the popular African recipe is the Nigerian Fried Rice.

Now, there are several methods of cooking Nigerian Fried Rice. Some recipes call for parboiling of the rice and then adding stock and veggies, then cooking till done. Others require cooking the rice, adding cooking oil and stock and then fried veggies then cook till desired texture is achieved. These methods are classic and tested, however, I’ve always had my own method which is what I’ll be using.

If you went to boarding school in the 90s, like I did, I bet you will agree with me when I say; made in Nigeria peanut snacks; Kulikuli is every boarder’s must-have snacks. This is especially because; food scarcity is a frequent thing in the hostel, as almost everyone would have eaten all their provisions a month into the term and then, start walking around as if they are in the spirit, looking for something to eat.😕😕😕

This is when Kulikuli and Ijebu garri comes to the rescue. Forget milk and sugar that would have finished by that time too. Lol! For me, Kulikuli has always been a lifesaver. Back then, I cannot use my eyes to see provisions and not eat it ohhh. Infact, I always find one reason or the other to open my cupboard at the slightest excuse. Once I finally finish everything, my eyes will suddenly clear up.😖

The Kulikuli that I had locked away inside an airtight tin then comes to my rescue. Hehe!

During my University Days, I was very conscious of the fact that, I look and feel more confident with a flat tummy and I can easily get away with wearing anything, no matter how fitted. To ensure the tummy stays flat, I had to starve myself...I don't eat before going to school, neither do I eat while in School. The only time I eat is usually after school and that is my whole meal for the day.

How I managed to get through Six years in the University like that, is still a big mystery to me.

I started living in Lagos after school, I was determined to fatten myself up and get some curves, but I forgot, a big tummy usually comes with all that. All attempts to incorporate my school lifestyle into my new lifestyle flat tummy wise, failed miserably. The Lagos Mums around me weren't helping matters too. You see them going up and down, with flat tummies after two/three kids.

After much thought, I decided to get my own flat tummy by exercising. The first day, I tried to do some sit ups and crunches; believe me, that was also the last day I ever tried it. Hian! who invented that kinda punishment in the name of exercise?😠😠😠

It wasn't long after that, I came across tummy blasting smoothie. This to me was a welcome blessing and that is what I have used ever since.
