“Chopping life” as they say is the new mantra when you know
you have the money, especially now that foodies are getting superbly creative
with food and making it hard to resist the temptation of eating it all in the
name of “tasting” that is until you decide to go swimming and find out that the
bikini no longer fit. Chai!🙆🙆🙆
Thankfully with a lifestyle coach like Shapeup with Mrs
Murphy, losing weight is perfectly easy with the icing on the cake, being that:
YOU CAN EAT ALL CLASSES OF FOOD. Trust me, that’s good music to my ears…and no,
I’m not a foodie, I just like to live a good life, lol!😏
KMB had an interesting chat with the beautiful
transformation coach, who happens to be her own very first client and she
touches on all aspect of turning a “fattie” into a “slay queen” Read on below…
KMB: Can you kindly introduce yourself and your brand Shapeup with Mrs Murphy?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : My name is Mrs Uchenna Mofunanya, the Founder and CEO of Shapeup with Mrsmurphy a Weight management, fitness and lifestyle consult.
I am a certified Nutrition and weight management coach as well as a Chemical Educationist.
KMB: If you had to define all that you do in a title, what would you say?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : Healthy lifestyle consultant
KMB: How would you describe your philosophy about being fit and healthy?
KMB: How would you describe your philosophy about being fit and healthy?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : Creating awareness of good nutrition as
an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical
activity, our diet can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce
your risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer), and promote
overall total health one individual at a time.
KMB: Why do you think shape up with Mrs Murphy is so successful?
KMB: Why do you think shape up with Mrs Murphy is so successful?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : Shapeup with MrsMurphy is successful
because we do not compromise the truth or create superfluous short cuts to make
money. We believe in eating all classes
of food to achieve our body goals without excessive deprivation, starvation,
sleeping in the gym or taking teas and pills.
We teach the
healthy lifestyle the right way, we do not teach the easy way out or what I
call the microwave phenomenon, but a lifestyle change that gives sustainable
results without any side effects.
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : We all approach body transformation from
different angles - food, starvation, exercise, teas, pills and going under the knife
in extreme cases. I really can’t tell what goes on in other programs; I try to
focus on what I’ve learned from my extensive trainings on the subject.
I have various
certificates on nutrition, fitness and chemistry so I know what's healthy and
what's not. But I guess, in the final analysis it should really be about not
just getting results but getting healthy results. And this is what we do – “Losing
weight the healthy way”. Matter of fact, this is what I preach. And trust me...
"It works like Magic"
KMB: What has been your greatest
professional success and biggest setback?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : I could mention this award or that
recognition… but really, my greatest professional success happens every day. When I see the smile on my clients face and whenever
they achieve their health and body goals, it’s a success for me. This feeling for me is very fulfilling.
My biggest setback stems from the dept. of mediocrity in the industry. I’ve come across people who try to compare me to some other coach whose method did not work or put me in a position where I have to validate myself or my work. It becomes more like I’m paying for another person’s crime.

However, I've
been able to deal with this, one client at a time. From one happy client to
another, gradually the wheat is being separated from the chaff.
KMB: What kind of diet would prescribe
for a client looking to lose weight?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : That would be a diet which consists of
all classes of food (Macro and Micro nutrients) in a well-tailored proportion,
according to your health and goals. We don't do ketogenics and we definitely
won't recommend teas. Don't get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with drinking
teas. There are perfectly healthy teas out there. Just that I won't recommend
teas as a panacea for weight gain.
You can enjoy
your tea but when you're serious about losing weight, we'll prescribe a food
regime that is both practical and sustainable.
KMB: What is your favorite go-to
healthy week night dinner?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy: For me, that would be fruit salad for the
basic reason that, they help me curb late night sugar cravings and are easy to
digest. If I am in the mood, I could convert it to smoothie and lounge.
Besides, people
who eat fruit as part of an overall healthy diet generally have a reduced risk
of chronic diseases. Fruits are
important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin C foliate
(folic acid), etc. And what's more, it's
easy to make.
KMB: What's your typical workout
routine?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : This will actually depend on where I am
(home or gym) and what I am working on for that day or period. But mostly I do
my routines at home (not a gym freak). I
visit the gym once in a while to maintain a healthy outdoors life. My average
routine would include, 30 reps of squat and kick, 30 reps of jumping jack, 10
reps of stacked foot push-ups, 30 reps of mountain climber, 3 sets of 20 reps
of crunches, 60 minutes plank. I know
this sounds heavy, but they are just simple home routines that anybody can do
between 45 minutes to one hour. Depending on time and place, I also do
skipping, dancing, basketball, swimming and aerobics.
KMB: What's the best way to motivate SOMEONE to get fit?
KMB: What's the best way to motivate SOMEONE to get fit?
KMB: What’s your favorite quote or mantra you can’t live without?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy: Everything you want is on the other side
of fear. In other words, doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. If you
want something, go after it. And if you want it bad enough, you'll surely get
it.
KMB: Who or what gives you the most inspiration?
KMB: Who or what gives you the most inspiration?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : When it comes to being fit and healthy, I
am mostly inspired by the vision of who know I can become. The realization that
I'm still a work in progress. And of course the tiny everyday changes and
improvements that go unnoticed by the average eye.
KMB: What essentials do we need at home to get the same results as we would at the gym?
KMB: What essentials do we need at home to get the same results as we would at the gym?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : I've always preached about learning to
improvise at home.
For a jump rope you can try invisible ropes by jumping like you have a rope. For dumb bells, you can use a plastic bottle of water or a gallon filled with sand depending on how heavy you want it to be. You can also use your chairs, tables, mat, stairs etc. All these are great tools for working out at home. Really it's not about the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog. Not having gym equipment is no longer a valid reason to remain unfit.

KMB: Who are your fitness idols?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : I admire quite a lot of great women (and
men) because of their continuous strive towards the achievement of their body
goals. But if I'm boxed into a corner to single people out, I dare say Serena
Williams internationally and in Nigeria, Kate Henshaw. These two ladies know no
obstacles. I say this because I know how difficult it could be to keep up with
the grind.
KMB: What’s your main rule when it
comes to diet?
KMB: What exercises are best for fat burn at home?
Shapeup with MrsMurphy : It all depends on what you have at home.
But in most cases, a yoga mat is usually enough. I'll give you a list of 10 sure fat burners
for the home:
Burpees - This at home cardio move tones your core, upper body and legs all at once- it’s a triple threat exercise that everyone tends to dread for good reason; they are hard! But they also work.
Jumping Lunges - Lunges are a fantastic thigh toning exercise; add in the momentum required to jump up in between lunges and the move turns into an incredible calorie burner.
Jackknife Crunches - Jackknife Crunches are an advanced abdominal move that engage both the upper and lower abs for maximal toning in the least amount of time. They are especially beneficial because lower abs can be hard to target without equipment.
Lunges with Reverse Leg Raise - This tones the glutes, thighs, obliques, and lowers back, all while building coordination and balance.
Jumping Squats - Do this exercise for a minute or two straight and you won’t have any doubts about how challenging it is. This plyometric is also great for building explosive speed.
Push Ups - Push-ups are a total body exercise that are easily modified and can be made to be very challenging, even for the most avid exerciser. If a regular push up feels too easy for you, try the Single Leg Push Up.
Side Planks with Leg Raises - While this most specifically targets the outer thighs, obliques, and deltoids, it requires the strength and coordination of the entire body to hold up the base Pilates side plank.
Lateral Jumps - Tone your core, glutes, and thighs with this one simple Pilates move. Because all of the large muscle groups involved, you burn a high number of calories while you are toning.
Mountain Climbers - Mountain Climbers can feel like a punishment, but they truly are one of the best overall toning and fat burning moves out there that don't require a bit of equipment.
Jumping Jacks - This simple at home cardio essential is an excellent way to get your heart rate up quickly. Add it in between strength training sets to keep your caloric burn high.
