Their CEO had an interesting Chit chat with KMB and we are delighted to bring you excerpts from the interview below;

KMB: can we meet you? what do you do?

Pop A Treat: I am Bamidele Seun Rasaki (Mrs.), a lawyer by qualification with specialty in Maritime Law and a mum of 3 lovely girls

KMB: what inspired your bran; “pop a treat”?

Pop A Treat: My friend and I, Miss Anita Modupe Omojafor came up with the brand name. At that time we had not come across a luxury gourmet popcorn brand in Lagos, Nigeria. There are so many things you can create with popcorn and different flavours apart from the regular sweet or salty popcorn most people are used to.

KMB: ok, so, how did you go about starting out?

Pop A Treat: It was easy to start up. We incorporated the company and started off testing recipes and finding the best ways to create the yummy gourmet popcorn.

Our popcorn are pre packed and all hand made in the kitchen. That makes it special. No machine. No artificial ingredients.

KMB: what is the name of your brand and how old is it?

Pop A Treat: It is called Pop A Treat. We started December, 2014

KMB: how has the market reception been since inception?

Pop A Treat: It has been great. Those who have had a taste always come back to give us good feedback. Those who appreciate such luxury especially have been most receptive. We cater for different events, birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, bridal showers etc.

KMB: like what can kind of Flavours do you have for your pops, and what services do your render with your brand?

Pop A Treat: We have different flavours ranging from but not limited to Sweet&Salty, Caramel, Toffee, Cinnamon Sugar, Marshmallows, Tandoori, Cookies & Cream.

We offer pre packed gourmet popcorn that can be personalized and Popcorn dessert stand for events.

KMB: what major challenges have you had to deal with since starting out? How did you sort them out, more importantly, what can you say, those challenges taught you?

Pop A Treat: We have definitely encountered challenges. Sourcing good popping corn locally. To overcome this we sometimes have to import our own popping corn. Sometimes some customers don't understand why so called "ordinary popcorn" have to cost that much. We have to explain that it isn't your regular popcorn. A premium has to be paid for the level of work & time that goes into the production and the quality of ingredients being used. Those challenges have taught us that running a business isn't easy in Nigeria, but with determination and the right attitude you can succeed.

KMB: Where do you see your brand in say 5 years?

Pop A Treat: The plan is to become a bigger brand where you can get our popcorn on the shelves of most grocery stores across the nation without diminishing in quality which is an important factor to us at Pop A Treat.

KMB: any advice for upcoming entrepreneurs?

Pop A Treat: Advice for upcoming entrepreneurs, be diligent and honest in your business practices. Integrity should be Paramount
