Everyone knows the brain and the force behind the Nigerian children’s clothing manufacturing and retailing store, Ruff ‘n’ Tumble. Ruff ‘n’ Tumble was founded in 1996 by Adenike Ogunlesi, who started when she sought for pyjamas for her kids and found none. She then decided to make them herself and with encouragement from people, Mrs Ogunlesi began to make for others and sell them from the boot of her car.
The clothing production which is mainly for children between the ages of 6 and 18 later boomed and extended to a better location at Victoria Island. Today, it has not only extended to many states in Nigeria (with over 15 branch locations across the country), but it has also birthed the brands ‘Trendsetters’ and ‘NaijaBoysz’ which provides clothing for young boys within the age range of 6 to 18, and has also provided employment opportunities to many, with way over 50 employees working there.

Here are some of the advice given by Adenike Ogunlesi to entrepreneurs:
– It is important that you develop yourself, to know your strengths and weaknesses.
– Learn everything you can, in every place you can, at any time you can.
– Dream big. Remember there is no stopwatch. Dream big, think global.
– It is never too late, even when you didn’t get started when everyone else did.
– Find your authentic self, everybody else is taken. Find out who you are, what your purpose is, what you like doing, what you are passionate about – and then go after it with everything in your total being.
